Therapy Style
Clients generally find me to be kind, gentle, thoughtful, yet interactive. I have often been told, "I gained more in this one session than I have in several months or even years with another therapist." I take an active role in the counseling process, asking a lot of questions to make sure that I understand correctly, and giving feedback about what I see and hear. I will offer my professional opinion, because I figure that's why you've come to me. Too many times, clients have told me of their disappointment with therapists who give little back in the session. I consider the therapeutic relationship key to be an avenue for you to honestly take a look at your current ways of thinking, relating, and behaving, and where you can get constructive feedback that should be of help to you. I respect my clients' personal values, religious and/or spiritual values, various lifestyles/orientations, and personality styles. I utilize Cognitive-Behavioral therapy, which has substantial evidence in the research literature to be one of the most effective therapies for mood disorders. I help you focus on the present, the Here-and-Now, and what is in your control to make your life what you want it to be. I have been trained in couples counseling by John Gottman, one of the renowned experts in this field. I also have extensive experience with adolescents, parenting, and blended family challenges. I generally see clients for 4-6 months, although some have come for up to a year.
